1.) Works as advertised

It works exactly how it should. And I'm going to respond to some comments that almost caused me not to buy the thing.

1. Can't get an accurate measure because of 1" intervals.

a) You're using it wrong. The intervals are to keep it from recoiling on it's own as you're pulling it out. When you press the button to recoil, there are no intervals. (hint: read the directions) Also, this gave the same measurements as a standard tape measure.

2. Broken out of the box, bad clicking noise.

a) It's a feature, not a defection. See answer above. You can also hold the button as you pull it out to avoid the clicking, but release the button when you're done so it doesn't recoil before you're ready.

3. The pin keeps falling out.

a) I don't know if it was the company's intention, but I see this as a feature. The only time it pops out is if the tape isn't straight and/or flush, which would give an inaccurate measurement anyway.

One challenge we have when we lose weight is that sometimes it might look like we've hit a plateau. Really, this usually means the body is slimming down but as we convert from fat to muscle we aren't "loosing weight" at the moment. A tape measure can help show this!

I've used several different kinds of tape measures in the past. Usually the problem is you're trying to hold the two ends of the tape measure in place while figuring out what they say. Often I have to call in my boyfriend to help out. For a variety of reasons there are many people who cannot or do not want help in this area :)

That's where the MyoTape tape measure comes in. I actually got this for myself solely because I had lost my old tape measures and needed one, and it was the top result on Amazon and looked easy to use. So I wasn't out seeking a "new and improved" tape measure. That being said, when I got this in the house I was really impressed that it WAS much easier to use than my previous ones.

You hold the handle, which is nice and solid and well shaped to grab onto. Then if you want you can "make the loop" and step into it, or pull the loose end around, depending on what part of you you are measuring. But the nice thing is you can keep everything loose while you get it into place.

Once you are close to where you want it to be, you push the button on the unit and it automatically snugs up. So you don't have to try to hold it in a certain spot or try to make sure you're holding it "tightly enough" or "loose enough". It always snugs up to the same level of tension. You only need to hold with one hand because the unit has connected into its closed loop. This means it's VERY easy to then look at the numbers and see what the total measurement is. You don't have to add or subtract - the unit is set up so that the number you see is the total number.

Well recommended! There are ALL sorts of situations where you "seem to be not losing weight" but really your body is getting slimmer. This is a great way to keep track of your progress!

Over the months I've been losing weight, I've used a regular 'sewing' type tape measure and had trouble getting it together and getting a fairly accurate measurement. It was kind of comical at times.

So I got this and it's a really big help, sort of an extra hand, and seems to adjust the same each time. So I'm happy.

It was also cool that my super geek-y husband, who is precise in almost everything, really likes it too!

So I know it sounds crazy to say a tape measure is great, but this one really is. I was using a regular ribbon-type tape measure (from a sewing kit) and this one blows that away! It's very easy to use and gives consistent measurements, which is important when you're tracking body progress, which involves very small changes! I recommend it if you're looking for a body tape measure, and it's reasonably priced.

This body tape measure is a very easy way to take your own measurements. It's inexpensive and easy to read the measurement ticks on the tape. I like the way the tape retracts back into the device, tightening up to get an accurate measurement.

This is definetly more than expected for the price. I think that the accuracy of +/- half cm as discuss in other reviews is more dependable on your ability to place the tape over the exact part of your body rather than a mechanical problem of the myotape itself. It will be an excellent purchase as long as you remember it was cheap and try it gently. My recommendation, as you pull the tape make yourself sure to pressure the bottom to avoid breaking the internal machinery.

I will recommended this product to anyone with a limited budget and a desire to measure their workout achievements.

I almost didn't buy this device because I thought "my wife has a fabric tape measure an that's all I need", but I was all jazzed up about getting in to great shape and in a moment of weakness bought the MyoTape...and I LOVE it.

The very best thing about it that I love is the fact that it's spring loaded and you don't have to guess about how tight to pull a regular fabric tape measure. This does it for you automatically. It's repeatable, easy, and accurate. Well, well, WELL worth the price. GET IT!

This is a really good product, I was in the Army for 8 years and this is what we used to tape our Soldiers. It's really ideal for someone trying to lose weight because what you really want to track is if you're losing inches. It's a bigger deal then the weight because if you gain muscle, muscle weighs more than fat but assists you in losing the fat, so you might be gaining weight sometimes when you're attempting to lose it. In other words if you used this every week it'll help keep you motivated.
It's also very useful when ordering clothes online

17.) Reason why measuring tape starts at 2"

This unit is 100% accurate, and i don't want to hear anyone say otherwise because they have no common sense...

For all those people who cannot figure out why the measuring tape starts at 2" (like the guy who posted the user photo) the reason is because there is the arch section of the main body of the unit that comes into contact with your skin (if you look at the user photo of the unit you'll see what i am talking about that arch section of the unit where the tape comes out is it). That additional distance needs to also be measured in order to get an accurate measurement, and the people at MyoTape thought it would make things easier to just have the measuring tape start at that distance so people wouldnt have to figure it out for themselves and add it to the distance on the measuring tape.

So just pull the tape out put the pin in the hole, click the button and then voila there is your 100% accurate measurement.

I tried measuring my waist with a regular sewing tape measure - it's very hard to read it, to hold it steady, and to know how much pressure to apply. You can easily get +/- 1" that way.

With the MyoType measure, it is lightly spring-loaded, so you don't need to guess at whether you're holding it correctly or not or applying the right pressure - you just wrap the tape around your body, press the little spring loaded retractor button, and read the measurement. I check this at least once a week to view results from my exercise and diet program - the results are very consistent, and I'm able to see my waistline gradually shrinking.

This tape measure is Awesome. I have owned two. The first one I had for 4 years. My BF broke it wondering how far out it would go *sigh* boys? Anyway, I thought I was going to freak cuz I haven't ever seen them ANYWHERE. So I was forced to go back to a regular, where did I measure last time?, gotta use both hands, who knows if you are accurate, tape measure. As a result, I stopped measuring....then I stumbled across it here at Amazon. I LOVE AMAZON!

Its SO easy. You tighten it around whatever body part and push a button. You don't even have to take the little knob out of the slot. Just move it up or down your arm, leg whatever, then push the button again.

It's GREAT. BUY THIS ONE! :)

This measure is very specifically - and well - designed to do what it says it will - measure around a body part.

It is simple and easy to use. Slip it around the target body part, slip the shunt at the end into the slot, and hit the button to retract the tape. The plastic curving top portion of the holder counts for about 1 3/4 inches, so your measurement is easily visible. You can unslot the shunt and look at it - the tape won't retract until you hit the button.

The holder is plastic but solid, and the tape is medium-heavy vinyl of some sort, I think - sturdy but pliable. Short of stepping on it with cleat boots or running over it with the car, it will probably survive a long time.

I personally have had zero problems with the shunt coming out of the slot. However, for those with this problem - depending on how dexterous you are - you can keep the pad of your thumb on the end of the shunt when you hit the button with the first knuckle of your thumb.

If you want to know how much you really have lost - or gained - or need exact measurements to buy a garment online - this is a perfect tool. And things go better when you have the right tool.

I saw the MyoTape for the first time as I was doing some online research. It looked like a great idea and decided to look for a site from which to purchase or a local store. The latter was unsuccessful but I found several places online. The best price was on Amazon.com. The MyoTape allows me to measure parts of my body that were difficult to measure by myself. It also provides consistency by providing the same tension each time I measure. And finally, it is neatly contained and doesn't get tangled as a normal measuring tape does. I love it!

THis is a good measuring tape. There is already an allowance of liek 1 inch as that white tip is taped at almost the 2-inch line. It feels sturdy and very light. I also like how it kinda locks, so I can take it off my body and not worry that I would lose the measurement. It works!

We bought this to measure sizes of waists, inseams, arms and other areas of our body. The tape is small, and easily creates a snug fit around whatever body part is measured. The end of the tape snaps into the main unit, there is a release lever to retract. When pulling out the tape, you wrap it around the body part being measured then snap it into the main unit, press release and it creates a snug (but not too snug) fit.

This permits almost instant measurements, is very accurate, and has helped us to be better online shoppers. Delivery was prompt, the unit was in new condition, is well constructed and easy to use.

First tape measure I ever bought, and I'm really glad I did. Not only is it great for tracking weight loss, like another reviewer said, but it's great to know your measurements in general. It makes online shopping for clothes sooo much easier when you know your true measurements, rather than just guessing all the time.

Best of all, unlike most other tape measures, you don't need a helping hand. You can measure yourself with ease.

I see a lot of people on youtube bragging about how big there biceps are when the tape they are using is all loose and what not. Well, this one tightens up to the right amount. Either you have 18" biceps or you don't this tape will tell you. Im a little discouraged cause my chest measurement is a 36" n biceps are 13.5" :( ( im a small man, working on it) but that's not the tapes problem.

When I saw this item online, I knew I had to have it. As someone who is in dire need of losing a few inches, this tool was necessary in my adventure to a thinner me! I read some reviews before I ordered, and nothing steared me away, not even the negative ones who said that it had a clicking noise. I'm glad I disregarded those reviews because that clicking noise is just a feature. Those individuals must not have played around with it enough to know that, but that's okay. I love using it [by myself] to see how many inches are on me and how many I need to lose yet. There's no way I could have done that with a regular soft tape measure and got anywhere near an accurate measurement. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS PRODUCT!!!

The only thing I'd have to say that may come off as negative would be that it's a lot smaller than I pictured it being. That totally turned into a positive when I used it though. The size I imagined it being would have been too bulky and hard to use while measuring. It's perfect!

I love this little gadget. In case you don't already know how it works, you pull the roll of measuring tape from one side, wrap it around your body part to be measured, and then slide the end of the tape into the notch on the other side and it holds it in place. Then you can press the little white button on the front to retract/contract the tape and it fills in the slack. Not at all tight, in fact on the loose side when it contracts. Does its job great, love it.

I can't really find any cons to this measure. It does exactly what I need it to do. It has inches and centimeters. It locks in place securely to measure body parts (or pretty much any roundish object). It snaps back reliably.

I was concerned about the negative reviews but bought this anyway because it was so cheap -- not much to lose. Re-reading the negative reviews I can see that some people just do not understand how to use it. I have been using it regularly and am surprised at how well it works -- much better than I expected, and just a great deal for the price. I wish I had one of these long ago.

I can't imagine WHY anyone would gripe about this thing. Have a LITTLE patience and you'll be amply rewarded. VERY convenient to take measurements where otherwise you couldn't on your own, i.e., your biceps. Just slip the little anchor piece at the end of the tape into the slot made for it, pull on the tape loop made (there's a catch inside the tape roll that prevents the spring inside from retracting the tape)until you can slip your arm through it and slide it up your arm with your free hand. When you have it positioned you push the little button on the tape holder and the spring inside is released and the tape retracts. Voila. Tape is easy to read, when you make the loop have the numbers on the tape facing outward. Same thing for thigh, abdomen, chest, whatever. I LIKE IT.

I will have to agree with Jay from Florida....everything he stated is exactly true. This measured my "measurements" exactly the way that my old tape measure did, but I think more accurately because of the "click/lock" option to make sure the reading is accurate. This works well enough to get the measurements needed and doesn't require the help of a second person. It is simple to use and the measurements are accurate enough for my purposes. There is a little round pin on the end of the tape which slides into a corresponding opening opposite of where the tape comes out. Let's say you're going to measure your bicep. After sliding the pin into the into the opening, remove enough tape so you can slide your arm through the looped tape up to you bicep. When the tape is around your bicep at the point where you want to measure, simply press the little button in the middle and the tape will retract around your bicep and then just read the measurement. This is made of plastic. It is not as sturdy as a tape measure used in woodworking or construction for measuring length. This is the same type of measuring tape used by tailors.

As a tape measure, it does what it says it does. You press a button and the tape tightens around your body part. You won't have to worry about, "Did I hold the tape tigher last time?" as the tension is always the same for consistent measurements every time. The tape starts measurement at 2" since the tape casing holds the tape and that part measures around 2 inches. I think this tape is accurate plus-or-minus half-an-inch but it sure beats a regular tape measure since at least the button ensures that each time the tape wraps around you at the same tension level.

This measuring tape is very easy to use by yourself. If you are wanting to measure your arms, just extend the tape out in a big loop, then slide the plastic nub at the end of the tape into it's notch. Stick your arm through the loop, and press the button in the center. It's that easy. If you do it like I do it, you can measure without flexing first..get your measurement, and then flex, and get the new measurement. You dont have to redo the tape, it just pulls out a little more for ya.

I only have 2 gripes about this. The first one is minor. I wish the plastic nub at the end of the tape had a rubber lining. Because the notch is plastic also. And plastic against plastic tends to slide. So instead of firmly being in place in the notch, it can slide out sometimes. So I've learned to just hold the nub firmly while pressing the center button to tighten the tape. The second gripe would have to be the tape itself. It's not bad, but it could be a better quality. Mine had a fold in it. I'm guessing the measurer had been in the package for a bit. So I had to rub the fold out. Not that big of a deal, but it just irked me some.

But if you want a cheap measuring tape, then you should give this puppy a try.

Got tired of using my sewing tape to see how my body was shrinking during my weight loss efforts. This item works much better. Only improvement I could suggest is if it could have the ability for the little piece at the free end to snap in place after it's placed into the hole.. I find that that end can sometimes pop out of the hole before I have finished checking the measurements.

I have trouble knowing how tight to pull the tape measure when I measure myself. I was hoping that this device would eliminate that problem. It does help to some extent, but there can still be a discrepancy of around 1/2". It does make it much easier than trying to look in the mirror and see the measurement when measuring alone. Shipping was ridiculous for one tape, but if you buy multiples there is only one shipping charge.

I really like this MyoTape Body Tape Measure. It's easier to take those difficult measurments. Just hook the end of the tape measure into the slot and push a button to tighten the tape. No longer do you need two free hands (or another person) to take a good measurement. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is that I haven't had the tape measure too long and it seems like it might break easily. I'm trying to keep it out of the hands of my young kids. Maybe I'll revise this after a few months of use to see if the product has held up.

I never checked the accuracy of this against a regular tape measure, so I can't speak to that. But it's a convenient way to regularly measure on a consistent basis. (FYI -- it's one of the easiest and most accurate ways to check your body fat percentage -- google "military body fat charts" to learn about it.) Some things you could do on your own with a regular tape measure, but this makes for easy, one-handed operation.

Held up steady for a while, but when I was away my kids were playing with it and broke it, and I'm buying another one. I think that about says it all.

The design of this tape is really brilliant. Anyone who is trying to lose weight should be tracking not only the pounds they are losing, but also the inches. Unfortunately, measuring yourself can be really awkward and it is hard to get accurate results, but asking someone else to do it can be really embarassing. This little measuring tape makes it much easier. You pull the tape out a little longer than you need it (the tape automatically locks in place), hook the little peg in the groove and then hold it against your body and push the button. The button causes the tape to retract until it is snug. Once you release the button the tape locks into place again. All you have to do at that point is slip the peg out of the groove and then look the markings. When you are done push the button again and the tape wraps up inside the handle. It is a simple design that really works. Anyone who is on a diet absolutely must get this tape. They will not regret it!

In overall, this product is pretty nice. The only exceptions are: 1) the tape was much smaller than I imagined, but I have to admit it was my fault, I should have read the product description more carefully. 2) When measuring, the end of the tape is hooked to the handle, but if it isn't held down, it constatly unhooks making it difficult to complete the measuring. It does feel a bit awkward and to some point annoying,using your thumb to press the button while at the same time using another finger to hold down the tape into the handle slot.

I have purchased several of these products in the past year. We own a medspa and have several weight loss programs so we measure all sizes and shapes of people daily. The only thing that needs improvement is a way to keep the end of the tape connected to the base while measuring. It has a little hole where the tape end is inserted, but I find it often pops out. A suggestion would be to add magnets to the base and the end of the tape so the two would be "attracted" to each other and less likely to unhook.

I wanted a tape measure that was accurate and I could keep it in place while I was measuring. This does the job for a really reasonable price. I do find that one has to be careful once the tab is placed in the holder not to push it or it could come out. Also, once you have measured something, you need to be careful not to tug on the tape or let it slide back which will change the measure. All in all this is a really good product that is easy to use, not flimsy, and made for a person to measure themselves without help.

The only con is that the white plastic thing tends to fall out of the "hole" so you have to hold the product right when measuring. This product did a great job of telling me how unsuccessful I was in losing weight. It was very easy to use, and had it not been for my horrible eating habits I probably wouldn't have broken it.

But I did, and then I put it back together, and then I threw it away, and then I bought another one, and now I avoid that tape measure even more than I avoid my scale.

Despite all of that, this tape measure works very well. It's all about the spring loaded tension on the tape, and the release button. This product has been very well designed to do a specific thing, measure soft, roundish shaped body parts. Dare I say it performs this task perfectly?

I think it did. But I must say, if you pull the tape all the way out to it's limit because you're frustrated with your lack of willpower to not eat so much cheese and white bread, then this thing may break, and trust me, even if you can put it back together like I was able to do it will not work right and you'll just end up buying a new one. So cut back on the carbs and take your emotions out on a heavy bag or a jogging trail or a stack of weights.

This tape measure works ok, but it certainly could have been designed better. After you wrap it around the part of your body that you want to measure, you put the pin on the end of the tape into the slot, then you push the button to tighten the tape, completing the measurement. The problem is that the pin falls out of the slot very easily, before you can push the button.

I've put some tape on the pin to make it fit better - it wouldn't have cost them anymore to make this a snug fit...

My only complaint is that the plastic edge at the front has somehow eaten the first 3.9 cm, so I have to subtract that amount from every measurement I take. At the very least, it could've eat a round 4 cm or 2 in to make the math easier.

The only downside is the retainer pin slips out too easily so it is not uncommon to have to repatedly return it to the holder to complete a measurement. A better design would utilize a tapered interference fit between the pin and holder so it wouldn't so easily slip apart. Other than that, it works as advertised and is easy for one person to use.

The measuring device has a clip that fits into a holder once it has gone round the part of the body you are measuring. I find that this does not clip into place well and you have to hold the tape at a certain angle to keep it from falling out. They could have made this better to justify the price.

I have found this measuring tape to be multifaceted and quite useful. For instance I tend to get secret pleasure out of measuring myself whilst donning my sweater-vest and handy sombrero. At times, however, I do find this product can cause a slight bit of chafing, that is when I turn to the ever soothing and convenient body glyde speed stick. All and all I find this to be a tremendous product, it really keeps me ahead of my weight gain and world domination aspirations. Highly reccomended!!

This IS better than a regular tape measure for tracking lost/gained inches on your body. BUT- it's a flawed design. It has a plastic pin at the end of the tape that you slide into a hole on the plastic holder, which would be MUCH better if the pin actually STAYED IN PLACE! Every time you tighten it, the pin pops right out. It's as if you need a third hand to hold the pin in the hole, and boy does it get frustrating. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it! I'm looking forward to an improved design, because yes this is better, but not by much!

EDIT: 8/3/2010...... I thought of an idea, MyoTape. Put a heavy duty magnet inside of the pin hole, and on the bottom of the pin. That will solve everything!!

I know it is just a measuring tape, but when you are losing weight, you really want/need an accurate body measurement. With most measuring tapes accuracy is fully dependent upon the user, but not so with this little gem. Unfortunately it seems to have preset intervals at which the scroll mechanism will stop - about every inch or so. So getting an accurate measurement is very difficult. This is such a great design - if more money was put into the production it would be a very handy little item. I definitely would not purchase again.

I think this is a cool idea, and I love how it works. The reason I am returning it is that it starts at just under 2". So, you're not actually measuring accurately, unless you want to subtract about 1 and 6/7" or something.

I'd rather just use my normal measuring tape.

The Myotape broke after the second use. The plastic cylinder at the end of the tape split in two when I retracted it back into the spool. Once that happened, it became useless because you can't get the tape back out of the housing.

I got this many months ago, and finally getting myself some time to write review on this. I measured up my old pants and ordered things based on that, and later found out it's still not fit. It's one inch over. I check this Tape and found that '1 inch' is glued inside it's roller head. Then I started taking measurement on my biceps,thighs and they're all over 1 inch.

It's really awkward to count 1 inch backward everytime I measured.

Very inaccurate stuff.

This tape is a great idea, but the design is poorly executed. The little plastic cylinder on the end of the tape freely slides out of the main body. Therefore, the tape constantly slips out when holding with one hand to measure the opposite bicep. You know that's why you're buying this, so look for a better product. Perhaps one that spent the extra 2 cents to make the tape snap into the handle.

One of the things that I have notice is that the measuring tape starts in about 4.5 cm (1.75 inches), so be aware of that you have 4.5 cm or 1.75 inches extra to what you are measuring. I thought I got 2 more inches but that was only because the tape starts at 1.75 inch.

The device was broken even before I opened the package. The first time I pulled the tape out to measure I heard what sounded like a cracking noise and it would not retract the tape back in to its holder. After breaking open the case I found the reason very cheap metal was used and they didn't even wind the spring the correct way. Pure Junk!!!

This tape is fine for measuring around items, like measuring your waist, biceps, etc. But it stinks for making simple linear measurements, like for example, if you were trying to measure your inseam. You have to "dock" the end of the tape back into the frame to take a measurement. The frame adds approx. 2" to the measurement, and thus the tape starts at 1 3/4". So for a linear measurement, you have to try to start at 2", and subract 1" from the measurement observed. I don't like it -- an old fashioned cloth tape is better.
