1.) Good product, easy to use.

If you want a simple BP monitor, the Omron HEM 432CN is a very good choice. I found it very neatly packaged and the operation is very simple. I find it reassuring that the pumping mechanism is based on squeezing, I feel it will definitely outlast a battery operated pump, this also makes it lighter + No batteries to change. It does use AA batteries, and they last quite a while. Its a good product at a fair price.

2.) Solid build, easy to use and good accuracy....

My wife had high BP, so we got this model. The reasons for choosing this model were that:
1. the upper arm monitors are supposed to be more accurate
2. it was cheaper than the fully automatic models
3. Omron seems to be one of the better/best brands.
4. Supposedly, the pumps on the fully automatic models are prone to breaking.

The unit appears well built (including the hand pump). It is easy to operate, and it seems very accurate. We checked its readings with an fully manual unit that we have at home, and the automatic unit at the drug store. We find it takes very accurate and consistent readings.

People with physical limitations might find the hand pump inconvenient. Also, people with a big arm might need to buy the larger cuff. I'm overweight right now, so the cuff barely fits my arm, but fits my wife's nicely (it was bought for her).

3.) Nice and easy to use - quite accurate

Super easy to use - I love it. We checked and its just as accurate as the manual ones. One user left feedback that the reading changed each time, but this is normal, BP does change in a matter of seconds and will go down quite a bit after you rest. Always take your reading in the same way...ie always sitting after resting 30 seconds etc. That is how you get the best idea of your avg BP.

This is a nice looking easy to use device. I wanted the simplist unit without air pumps and the need for chaning out batteries all the time.

You Just turn it on, wrap the cuff around your arm, pump up the air bulb and let it go. The unit takes your pressure and pulse as it deflates.

This thing is awesome; easy to use, accurate, and long battery life. I use it most days in the morning to take a few readings and the batteries are still going strong eight months later. You could buy a fancier unit, but I didn't see the need.

It fits my arm fine, but the band does seem a little small. You'd probably have buy the optional larger arm band if your arm is any bigger than average circumference. For this, I'll give it 4.5 stars. I really don't see why the band couldn't have been a little bigger.

No more to say other than that I agree with the other positive reviews totally.

If you are looking for the most bang for the buck and simplicity, make this your choice.

Blood pressure is one of the most important and easy to obtain measures of your own health. This is an excellent tool for monitoring your own blood pressure at home.

Among other things I've done in my life, I was a Volunteer Emergency Medical Technician for a while. I've used all kinds of sphygmomanometers (that's blood pressure cuffs, if you didn't know), from hefty automatic machines in hospital emergency rooms to manual cuffs combined with a stethoscope. This instrument simplifies the process greatly, without complicating itself with automatic pumps or other diagnostic equipment the layman is unlikely to need. It collects data on blood pressure and heart rate, and can even track up to ten readings in memory.

People who don't have a lot of hand strength or patience with manual cuffs will probably prefer a motorized version with its own air pump, but for my money and the use I put it to, this is absolutely the best buy for me.

12.) It works

I bought it (for $[...]) and contrary to what some people say, it works. The instructions are clear, but the ones on Amazon are even better.

Here are the mistakes I made at the beginning:
1) Didn't put the cuff on properly. Use the arrow next to the tube and it should be right in the middle of the elbow.
2) Didn't wait for the heart indicator to settle before inflating. Once you have the cuff on and turn on the machine, you should not inflate yet. Instead, wait till the heart indicator changes.
3) Deflated the cuff manually. The deflation is automatic, you just pump it to about 160 and then just wait. Do not use the deflation valve next to the bulb. I think it's just for emergencies.

Finally, one remark. At the time of the review, the Amazon indicated that it requires AA batteries but the version I received is powered by AAA ones.

Unless you are a really large person the armband should be fine(there have been reviews saying it's small). If you are considering ordering this you should probably wait to get the product before you order a larger armband. The readings have been close. Sometimes it will read really high or really low but if you wait 5 minutes and test again it's fine. Also, make sure that you pump the armband and let it do it's thing, from other reviews it seems that people are deflating the armband like the doctor does. You do not have to do that and if you do you will get an "error" all the time. Once the reading is over then deflate. Overall great for the money.

So I've seen it work correctly with high bp and normal bp. I get the same results (within about 3-5 points top and bottom numbers) with this model as I do with a standard bp cuff and stethoscope. I also compared it against itself, checking each arm multiple times, and it comes up with the same numbers within about 3 points (again, then I double checked it with a tradition bp taker, and it is right on). From what I see so far, this is a fantastic buy.

Been self checking every morning when I wake up, takes readings easily. You can even self check systolic pressure, just follow the pressure drop and feel when your pumping resumes in the arm.

Three months ago my doctor recommended I buy this monitor and take readings for a few weeks. At first I got mostly error messages until I started pumping up to over 200 (the instructions recommended 180). After that I got few error messages, but the readings had some wide variations. My doctor said that is not unusual and told me to count only the lowest of three readings each session. Then the measurements were mostly consistent showing an average of 158/90, which is high. Now that I have been on high blood pressure medication for a couple months, it has dropped to an average of 135/80.

So I'm convinced the device is accurate. The only caution is that it does take a fair amount of hand strength to operate the pump. If that's an issue you should spend more for an alternative device.

Reviewed by: vayankee Roanoke, VA United States
Rating:
Most people who have their blood pressure regularly taken know whether they are using the proper size cuff. Too small a cuff gives a higher than correct reading, whereas the larger cuff would give a false low reading to a person who needs the smaller cuff.
Unfortunately, this monitor comes standard with the smaller cuff. Nowhere in the product description or reviews does it mention this information. The unit cost appears to be a good value. However, to get the larger cuff, you must purchase THAT item separately at an additional cost of twenty dollars or more plus shipping. If it is necessary for you to use the larger cuff, save yourself some time and order one in the $40-50 range which comes with the larger cuff originally and save waiting time - plus the second shipping charge. I know if I had read that information in the description, I would have purchased a different monitor.

I have taken my blood pressure on one arm and then the other arm immediately after and there were differences of greater than 10 and 5 for the upper and lower numbers. When I go to the doctors office my blood pressure is the same in both arms almost all the time. Also when I go to the public blood pressure machines in stores the readings there are lower than by more than 10 points as well.

I gave it three stars due to the fact you can at least get a ball park figure and be alerted for any large increases in blood pressure. For the price I guess you can't expect too much.

95.) This product never worked right for me
Reviewed by: BostonAaron Boston, MA
Rating:
I purchased this product in the fall from Amazon and my wife and I used it for about three months. We always questioned the readings which seemed to be on the high side for blood pressure but accurate for heart rate. The unit often gave error indications which required a retry. My wife, a nurse, has access to the old style cuff and stethoscope found in many doctor's offices so we could compare this machine to her readings and to the doctor's readings. This machine (HEM-432C) was always high by at least 10-15 points on both blood pressure values - and I carefully followed the manual in taking the readings.

In addition, the cuff, as others have said, is small and we are average size. It's hard to get around the upper arm even for us (and somewhat difficult to blow up) so I have to assume that larger individuals would need the larger cuff, an added expense. Recently, we purchased a new Omron HEM 711AC blood pressure monitor, sold by Amazon, that has an automatic pump, large cuff, an AC adapter and can also work off of AA batteries (not supplied). This new more expensive unit from the same manufacturer works well and the readings are accurate and more consistant with the Doctor's readings and those performed with using a stethoscope. Although I thought of sending the HEM-432C in for repair we would then still have a cuff that's really too small so I disposed of it after removing the batteries that had lots of life left in them. The units with automatic inflation of the cuff seem to be the way the industry is going and for many may be worth the added expense.

96.) This Blood Pressure Monitor doesn't help

The monitor is a cheaply built machine. All other monitors I've had male plugs on the ends of the tubes to the bulb and the arm cuff to be inserted into openings in the body of the machine. This has nothing on the ends of the tubes; they are to be pushed over two nipples on the case and held there by the power of faith. Not only do the tubes leak, causing many error readings, but they fall off when the cuff is unstrapped. Machine sells for a good price but isn't even worth that.

99.) Fussy & unpredictable
Reviewed by: Alfred Lockwood Angels Camp, CA United States
Rating:
After four months use, I find this monitor gives unpredictable systolic (upper number) readings, largely dependent on how much it's pumped up. It tends to be more repeatable with diastolic (lower) numbers. I can, for example, obtain a reading as high as 140/70 or as low as 106/67, purely by changing my pump-to start pressure. I would recommend another monitor.

My wife has high blood pressure. In order to keep close tabs on her problem, our family doctor suggested that we purchase an inexpensive Blood Pressure Monitor and he recommended the Omron HEM-432C unit. This way she could check and record her pressure every day and report the daily results to the doctor every month or so. I checked around and found the best price at Amazon, so I ordered one. It came nicely packed and when my wife used it she was pleased to see her high blood pressure was now in an acceptable range. My wife is a nurse and made sure she read the user instructions carefully. However, both of us were suspicious of these good numbers...all of a sudden, so we brought the moniter over to our family doctor for a calibration check. Sure enough, it was consistently reading 30 points low when compared with his expensive lab monitor. The doctor was quite annoyed and told us to get rid of this thing immediately. Amazon was made aware of the problem and to their credit they immediately made provisions for a return. I opted to try another one but if the second one is a dud I will be mighty annoyed. A blood pressure monitor is too important an instrument to give faulty readings. This could be a life or death situation if you stop your medication because your blood pressure seems acceptable. Possibly Omron should calibrate the units in the USA after they are shipped in from...yeh, you guessed it...China. For now I have to give this particular monitor one star although it deserves a zero star rating.

"I have tried 2 HEM-432CN2 units and neither one works as advertised, and both exhibit the same symptoms - an E code which I am told by your customer service is a cuff error. I have confirmed that the cuff is the correct one for my arm size. My doctor's nurse is unable to get it to work, and I have called your customer service number and worked with them on the line to make sure I am putting the cuff on and pumping correctly and rapidly enough, and still it does not work reliably. Even when I do get it to display a reasonable looking number, it is some 20-25 points higher than my doctor gets with his machine, which is the difference between completely satisfactory at 130 Systolic and completely unsatisfactory at more than 150 with the Omron. I am forced to conclude that it is a bad design and should be removed from the market, and plan to leave more feedback to that effect on the Amazon customer reviews for the unit (I see there that there are a lot of people having similar issues)."Omron HEM-432C Manual Inflation Blood Pressure MonitorManual Inflation Blood Pressure Monitor, by Omron, Model: HEM-432C - 1 eaOmron HEM 432C Digital Blood Pressure MonitorOmron HEM 432C Digital Blood Pressure Monitor-Manual InflationOmron HEM-432C Manual Inflation Blood Pressure MonitorOmron Manual Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-432CManual Blood Pressure MonitorManual Inflation Blood Pressure Monitor

I'm sending this back. We got it because our doctor said the wrist cuffs are not reliable. (We have a wrist cuff of a different brand.) However, we've compared them, and for my mom there is no significant difference: both monitors have a large range of error (variation in repeated readings), but they overlap. Also, my mom cannot use the upper-arm cuff herself, so I have to do it for her, whereas she can operate the wrist cuff herself.

But the real problem is that the Omron cannot measure my father's BP, and he's the one the the higher blood pressure. In the week plus since it arrived, trying half a dozen times a day, we've had only two successful readings. The wrist cuff, on the other hand, works every time. It does occasionally give an anomalously high reading (maybe twice a week), but taking two readings with the wrist cuff to compensate for that is still more reliable than six 'error' readings with the Omron. And it's nice that they don't have to call me every time they want to take their blood pressure.

Features of Omron HEM-432C Manual Inflation Blood Pressure Monitor

Omron HEM 432C Digital Blood Pressure Monitor-Manual Inflation

Taking your blood pressure is easy with the lightweight and convenient Omron HEM-432C Manual Inflation Blood Pressure Monitor . This monitor comes equipped with a standard adult-sized cuff that fits arms nine-to-13 inches in circumference. Simply wrap the cuff around your arm and squeeze the bulb to begin inflation. In a few seconds your blood pressure and pulse readings are displayed on the large digital panel. Omron's monitors are clinically proven for accuracy so you can use the HEM-432C to track your blood pressure and pulse progress as your work towards a healthier lifestyle.

The Omron HEM-432C delivers accurate, clinically-proven blood pressure readings in the comfort of your own home.

To take an accurate reading, first position the marker so it is centered on the inside of your arm and aligned with your middle finger.

Next, place your arm on a table so the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart.
Instructions for Manual Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors
There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. On the cuff you'll notice a blue marker; position this marker so it is centered on the inside of your arm and aligned with your middle finger. Next, secure the cuff with the closure strip. The cuff should make direct contact with your skin, but you should be able to easily fit your index finger between the cuff and your arm.

Place your arm on a table so that the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your blood pressure measurement. Once you feel relaxed, begin inflating the cuff by rapidly squeezing the inflation bulb until you have reached approximately 30-40 mmHg higher than your normal systolic reading. If your normal systolic blood pressure reading is unknown, inflate the cuff to 180 mmHg (never inflate higher than 299 mmHg). When the desired pressure has been achieved, release the inflation bulb. Once inflation stops, the measurement is started. As the cuff deflates, decreasing numbers will appear on the display. When the measurement is complete the Heartbeat symbol stops flashing and your blood pressure and pulse rates are displayed on the screen. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure.

The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring
Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including:

Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, medications, and stress. So having your blood pressure monitored at a pharmacy with an in-store device after you've been shopping or walking around might not provide you with the most accurate measurement. Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you achieve a relaxed state more easily, and it gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your measurements over time. This can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication.

Q&A - Blood Pressure Monitors

What is IntelliSense?
The IntelliSense Monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use. No adjustments are required by the user to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders, because their blood pressure is more likely to fluctuate. The advantage is fast personalized inflation for maximum comfort.
What is a ComFit cuff?
The patented pre-formed cuff expands to fit regular and large arms comfortably and easily.
How is an Irregular Heartbeat Shown?
This advanced monitor can detect irregular heartbeats while your blood pressure is being measured. If an irregular heartbeat is detected, an accurate blood pressure reading is displayed along with the irregular heartbeat symbol.
What is Morning Hypertension?
The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends you take blood pressure readings in the early morning and evening. With the touch of a button you can review an eight week history of your morning and evening weekly blood pressure averages.
