I got this monitor to keep track of my blood pressure so that I could give the printed reports to my doctor. I have one that I got from Sharper Image that is easy to use but you can't upload readings to a computer. The one from Sharper Image was also not very accurate when compared to using a regular doctor grade cuff with a stethoscope. The Omron monitor is much easier to use than the Sharper Image one, is easier to ensure the proper position and the uploading of the readings is very easy. I took the Omron monitor to my doctor to have her calibrate it against her measurements and the Omron monitor was nearly identical. Based on that and the printed reports, I was taken off my blood pressure medication!

I've used this product for almost a month now. It's easy to use and has proven accurate. I took it to my cardiology appointment and it gave the same readings as the doctor's equipment. Plus, I was told this is the unit most doctors recommend, due to its accuracy. The software that came with it (as well as a USB cord) make it possible to easily download your results onto your computer and print the results or save them. It comes in a sturdy plastic case for storage or travel. The manual is easy to understand. I would recommend this to anyone needing to watch their blood pressure and pulse carefully.

21.) Within 3-5 % of my conventional manometer + stethoscope
Reviewed by: Tom USA
Rating:
I just bought the Omron HEM-670IT and yesterday had wife make 4 measurements over a period of around 4 hours using the conventional arm band manometer (circular analog pressure scale actually) and stethoscope. I immediately followed each of her measurements with an Omron reading (average of 3 measurements taken 15 seconds apart). The resulting differences: This Omron model and "sample" averaged 3% high on Systolic and 5% high for diastolic measurements. Fine in my book. A slightly high average measurement I consider to be more acceptable than one that's low. And perfect agreement is difficult to achieve since the analog gauge on my traditional manometer is 2mm resolution.

In my experience, there's variability in successive measurements by a mercury manometer and stethoscope (procedural variability) so getting perfect correspondence of the same device to itself is unlikely. So the degree of correspondence between a cuff pressure manometer + stethoscope and the new Omron is acceptable to me. Next visit to the MD I'll take my Omron along for a final check on agreement.

Likes:

1. Software graphs of USB uploaded measurements over time make me visually aware of degree of my BP control. This rules out relying on my memory, which tends to only recall the better measurements.

2. When set to average 3 measurements, just leave Omron wrist unit on and elevated to heart level, and the unit takes care of deflating and pausing between measurements, then presenting me with the average. Nice.

3. I find the degree of agreement with conventional analog manometer and stethoscope to be comforting.

Dislikes:

None occurs to me.

Very easy to use and it has more graphs and charts than I will ever need. I can print out all results for my physician to review. It gives weekly, monthly and yearly averages. Excellent monitor. I have used other wrist blood pressure monitors and found them to be somewhat inaccurate. This one hits the mark with the bulb squeeze type and was only off by about 2 points, but then you have to remember that your blood pressure is not static, it changes slightly by the moment. But this is great especially for keeping a record in a very easy manner showing your history of your blood pressure. Highly recommend and I wish I would have found this a lot sooner. I have had absolutely no problems with it.

I got a sleeping appliance to fix that, and since than my BP has been fine in the mornings. The cuff on this is very comfortable, and the readings seem to be fairly consistant and accurate. I'll occasionally check them against the readings of the older model OMRON I was using before. I read a lot of reviews before buying the Omron HEM-670IT Ultra Premium Wrist Monitor. Many were confusing and offered a variety of ratings. The unit replaced a ten year old wrist Omron that had given up the ghost.

I took a chance on this unit and have been more than pleased. I have taken it to and compared it to my doctor's office unit on several visits. The reading has always been within a point or two compared to their professional cuff. That's pretty accurate. Downloading the info to the computer and taking the printout to the doctor is a big bonus. It can be reported weekly, monthly or yearly with nice easy to read charts.

This unit probably saved my life. Several weeks ago I had a normal BP reading in the morning, but the pulse read above 100. I didn't feel ill or any different than usual. I thought the machine had goofed. By noon, my BP was still acceptable, but my pulse had reached 140 and I was dizzy and began sweating profusely. By the time I got to the ER my pulse was over 180 and my BP had risen sharply. A three day stay in the hospital brought everything back to normal. As a result, my meds have changed drastically. (This was my third heart attack. The other two I felt coming.)

I would recommend this BP unit to anyone with my blessing!

This is the best blood pressure monitor I've seen for personal use. Avoid using it before reading the paperwork that comes with it. At first, I thought the darn thing didn't work. I now understand what "advanced positioning sensor" means. Once you strap it on your wrist and turn it on, a small heart flashes telling you it isn't positioned (high or low enough) correctly. Once you raise or lower your arm to the correct height (heart level), it automatically inflates and takes your bp.

Just today, I setup the software on my computer that came with it. It attaches to your computer with a USB cable and exports all of the readings taken to the computer. I transferred 192 readings over the last month.

The software automatically graphs out systolic, diastolic and pulse rate and even will export the readings to a PDF. You can print the graphs and/or total readings in spreadsheet format, too, which I personally prefer.

I highly recommend this machine. It's fast, easy to use and the included software makes it a perfect way to record and keep track of how your blood pressure is doing.

I agree, some days I might have low blood pressure, like today I was EXHAUSTED so I checked my blood pressure in case low blood pressure was the culprit. Omron HEM-670 read: 96/58. Nothing to be afraid of. It would have to be 90/60 to be borderline low. I'm still healthy.

I've had this monitor for 2 weeks, checking my blood pressure twice daily (morning/evenings) and I find it is very accurate. I took it to my doctor's office to compare it with the office's arm cuff monitor and it was right on. The previous Omron monitor I owned (no longer being made) was not accurate at all, much to my dismay after I had it checked.

This monitor is very easy to understand and use. My only disappointment with it was when I installed the software to my computer, I noticed that the readings/memory can only be saved for 1 person at a time, not 2 (like the more expensive arm cuff monitor). Thus, if I want my husband to monitor his blood pressure so that we can keep track of it, we'd have to take turns every other week and select his name instead of mine when downloading information from monitor. For historical tracking, we can save the weekly download files on a .csv format for each one of us.

Both monitor and software are easy to use. I would recommend this monitor to my family and friends.

Pros:

Cons:

Included software could have a clearer user interface

I really like the way it measures the blood pressure AS it pumps up so it never pumps up higher than it needs to to get a pressure reading. Many other BP Monitors pump up to 160-180 then measure the pressure as it bleeds off the air.

To the Engineers: I'd like to see the next model have a wireless way to transfer the data. I travel which is why I bought a compact monitor. My laptop case has too many cables already and now I have another one. Consider WiFi, Bluetooth, SD card. Also a backlit display would be nice. I would pay more for these features.

As a former Biomed tech that tested and repaired 100's of BP Monitors I can say with some authority that this is a winner.

This device is very simple to use. Read the instructions; you have to position your arm in a certain location close to the heart. The unit detects its proximity and starts working. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because all my machines run Vista and even though the OS recognizes the device, the Omron software does not "see" it as connected. Maybe they will fix this in the next release of the software. For this reason I cannot say anything about the software that came with it. Also, my Doctor said that the electronic meters are not as accurate as the ones doctors use. I told him I was going to bring mine to his office and compare. I will update this review as soon as I do. Overall, I would recommend the unit to anyone that, like me, is on the run all of the time. I wanted something the kids wouldn't play with but yet easy to take quick measurements, so I looked into Omron's HEM-670IT which comes with a small (approx 4"x3"x3") plastic carrying case. It seems some reviewers question the information which scared me, but I purchased anyway. In trying it, I learned it is fairly complicated (but damn cool) and could see how some people might get bad readings. There is some magic detector that tells you when your wrist is level with your heart (palm usually ends up on shoulder). The meter will not inflate and take measurements until you place it at the correct level (very repeatable) UNLESSSSSS you, for some reason odd reason, turn that feature OFF; then you could be doing a head stand and it will test blood pressure.

I took many readings (dozens) at home and it seemed very repeatable and LOW, which made me think I was a sucker like some other people feel about it in reviews. HOWEVER, I brought it to the doctor with my old Omron arm cuff meter for comparison to the doctors tests and I operated the HEM-670IT just like I did at home and it gave me repeatably HIGHER readings (15 points) when compared to home, but within 5 points of doctors (not nurses) multiple readings. I thought I was over white coat syndrome a LONG time ago, but it seems like the HEM-670IT IS ACCURATE FOR ME and I'm not over white coat syndrome UNLESS the cuff is somehow detecting a medical professional nearby and does something differently *laughs*.

It's self-inflating, and best of all, it comes with software and automatic data download to your computer. It's a relatively small device and comes with a hard plastic travel case. It comes with a USB download cable and the required batteries. I've been using it for several months now and couldn't be happier. It's easy to use and tells you when you have it in the correct location to get an accurate reading. Downloading the data is a piece of cake. Loading the software on your computer is also easy. Best of all, the software also works with the Omron pedometers (I also ordered one of those after the good results I've had with the blood pressure monitor). Is it perfect? Hard to say. The software was very easy to use, easy to install, and we patched it to the newest version via the Omron website.

It arrived very quickly. We purchased a combo pack of AAA rechargeable batteries and a charger from Battery Superstore (a associated vendor), and those rechargeables seem to work just fine in this unit. They even came with a car charger, which we can see coming in handy if the batteries fail on a road trip.

Overall, a splendid combo and we aren't going through so many batteries with the cuff. Always felt bad about that, now the problem is solved.

Our only (minor) issue is that we can't track the BP for each of us separately on the cuff. We can do it via the software, but would be nice to separate them out on the cuff as we go. I did mark down because of that, but really I would give this unit 4.5 stars which isn't one of the options.

I didn't give this 5 stars because I haven't had it long enough to see how it holds up. I got this as a replacement for the HEM-650, which was OK, but which lasted less than 2 years. I'm sending that one away for repairs....I think the inflating bladder inside it no longer works as it won't inflate. So I decided to get another one, and I was interested in this model because I liked the additional features....ability to show the date and time, it can store 100 readings, the APS feature is nice, and you can do averages as well. (The APS was apparently on my 650 but it never worked at all). In the setup screens you can adjust brightness on the screen, and can choose to do 3 readings and then an average of the three. My main complaint is that the software end of things (which you undoubtedly pay extra for) will not work with Macs. I really don't understand why a device such as this one wouldn't have software on both platforms, Mac and PC. There are a LOT of us out there with Macs, and I've found a great many health type devices only work with PCs. So I'll get no use from the computer charting, unfortunately. However, all other aspects of this model seem great and I like it much better than the 650. The Omron BP monitors all seem to have a 5 year warranty as far as I can tell, so that's a good thing. I really do like the APS feature in terms of positioning it correctly. I have already seen that I was positioning my older monitor in the wrong place, so possibly my readings weren't accurate. On this one, the APS gives you a visual about positioning, and when you get it in the right spot, it beeps. So I like this feature very much. For people with PCs, the monitor has a USB connector and the product includes the appropriate USB cord. Since I can't use the software, I can't comment on how good it is (or isn't).

I wanted to be able to take my own blood pressure quietly and unobtrusively (at work and eleswhere). I checked the consumer ratings and found that wrist type blood pressure cuffs are never as accurate as those that measure the brachial artery pressure, but the Omron was better rated than some of the other brands. I got the HEM-670IT because it came with the Advanced Omron Health Management Software that lets you store and analyze your readings in a computer. Yeah, I'm a gadget freak!

Overall I've been happy with the convenience and the accuracy. I checked it against the doctor's office and both the systolic and diastolic were within 10%. It's especially important to follow the instructions with a wrist-cuff meter and always to be consistent. The HEM-670IT has a sensor that tells you when you need to raise your wrist until it's the same height as your heart to cancel any difference in pressure, due to gravity.

Amazon offered a package deal with the Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer that also uses the Advanced Omron Health Management Software. You can store your exercise readings alongside your blood pressure readings. So, I ordered them as a pair.

Here's where things go awry. You'd think that Omron would've designed both units to use the same cable, but you'd be wrong. I anticipated being able to use the same cable on both units, leaving one cable at home and the other cable at work, so I didn't have to constantly tote a cable. Well, since the don't use the same cable, I have to tote both cables so as to have them at home and work. What's worse, although the Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor comes in an adequate, hard plastic case, its data cable has a giant hard plastic "dongle" in the middle of the cable which makes it impossible to carry it in the case with the meter. I suppose the "dongle" has some "secret electronics" in it that are necessary, but come on! If we can put a dune buggy on Mars, you'd think we would be able to make a cable that will fit in the carrying case or a carrying case that will fit around the cable.

Batteries? Yes they both have them. The cuff uses 2 AAAs. If I could've found another brand that used 2 AAs we wouldn't be having this conversation. The pedometer uses a Lithium "coin" battery (who ever has the right replacement on hand when they need it?) and requires a miniture cross-point screwdriver to change it.

I give this combo 3 stars, but with a little forethought on Omron's part it could'a been a 5.

A+

The ONLY problem: when compared to blood pressure monitors at my local hospital and my personal physician's office, it consistently reads Diastolic high, usually by about 30 points, and Dyastolic high, by around 15 points. I am being evaluated for hypertension and since I *usually* measure within healthy ranges at medical faclities, with only the occasional very high repeatable reading, I have been directed to take frequent, scheduled measurements at home. The degree of error found in this possibly defective unit -- which I note appears to be atypical for most customers -- is enough to suggest the need for specific treatments where none may be necessary.

The Automatic Positioning System and Intellisense technology featured in this product seemed to work just fine, consistently guiding me to position my wrist in the same locale over my chest, thus I believe that my experience may not reflect the behavior of a properly functioning Omron HEM-670IT.

I am returning this unit to AMAZON, and ordering the arm cuff style HEM-790IT, which appears to not be as convenient to carry around, but seems to enjoy better reviews and is more trusted for accuracy by medical professionals. A smaller and easier version, so I ordered this OMRON HEM-670IT wrist blood pressure monitor. And since I had both I was able to compare. This 670IT has a mind on his own. It was off (or lets specify it better: different) to the other one by 10-20 points. Not just less or just more. No, sometimes 20 more, then 10 times less. And so on.

It has something what Omron calls IntelliSense, which lets you raise your wrist up to your heart before it starts measuring. Well since then I know my heart must be in my throat. Because there it started measuring. Sometimes. Sometimes this thing found my heart somewhere in my stomach.

And last but not least: Omron changed the USB plug on their side of the strip. Now you need two USB cables when you go on the road and you have the Omron wrist monitor 670IT and a Omron pedometer (HJ-720ITC). Well that's what we need in these days - a senseless cable more.

After my last visit to the cardiologist, I began using an Omron HEM-780 that had been measured against units used by two different cardiologists. In these cases, the readings of the Omron HEM-780 were almost identical to the doctors' equipment. I have stopped using the Omron HEM-670IT and will now use it as a paperweight only.

The Omron HEM-670IT is convenient to use, sturdy, and attractive. However, it does not perform accurately -- not even close!

I strongly recommend that potential customers look elsewhere in the Omron line of quality BP instruments. This one is worthless -- and is potentially hazardous to your health.

This unit was easy to use and read but unfortunately I found the readings to be VERY inaccurate and unreliable. Readings were checked against readings obtained at the doctor's office and were not even close. Too bad, because I liked the features and ease of use.

Wrist blood pressure monitors are portable, accurate and simple to use. They provide a convenient choice for those who want a second unit for away from home or who have trouble placing a cuff on their arm. The Omron HEM-670IT Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor uses Omron's patented IntelliSense technology, which inflates the wrist cuff to the ideal level with each use and offers fast, personalized, and automatic inflation for maximum comfort. No adjustments are required to select an inflation level--especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders, because their blood pressure is more likely to fluctuate. And with the HEM-670IT's 100-memory recall with date and time stamp, as well as averaging capabilities for the last three readings, you can track your blood pressure and pulse progress as your work towards a healthier lifestyle. The HEM-670IT also features a system that detects an irregular heartbeat as well as morning hypertension, giving you an even better understanding of your heart's health. A built-in hypertension indicator lets you know if your readings indicate a high-blood pressure condition. Plus, you'll have additional peace of mind knowing that the HEM-670IT comes with a 5-year warranty.

Because the HEM-670IT has a wrist cuff, it is particularly helpful if you have a larger than average sized arm. The monitor fits those with a wrist size of 5.25 to 8.5 inches, and it ensures easier and more comfortable use. Note, however, that a wrist monitor does require proper positioning of the device at the heart level. Correct cuff positioning is critical when monitoring blood pressure, fortunately, the HEM-670IT features an advanced positioning sensor that automatically confirms that the cuff is level with the user's heart, thereby ensuring an accurate reading.

It is critical that when using a blood pressure monitor the cuff is the appropriate size and is properly applied. An ill-fitting cuff or an incorrectly-applied cuff can result in inaccurate readings. Consult your doctor or the included instructions for the proper application of the cuff.
