The Omron MC 514 Thermometer works terrific. I am a nurse and the thermometer is very accurate. I use the thermometer at work, but will probably pick one up for home use as well.

Other than instructions that make it sound very difficult to use, this is a great product. It is NOT difficult to use. Just turn it on and stick it in your ear, wait for a beep and press the button. Presto! Instant temperature reading. I tested it along side my doctor's thermometer and it was dead on accurate. It was slightly expensive, but worth it for the accuracy and ease of use.

The instructions for this item are very clearly stated. From other descriptions of the item, I thought the beeps, and then the next step, and..... we're going to be a hassle. Not at all. I tested it 5 times across 30 minutes, while working at my computer and read the same temp- with minor variations each time. For the price, ease, and verification process, this is an excellent home thermometer.

Lo compre directo a amazon, y les dire que es una muy buen termometro, las mediciones son bastante exactas y es solo centión de aprender como utilizarlo, pues son solo 4 pasos;

1)presionar el boton para encenderlo.
2)colocarlo en el conducto auditivo externo con mucha delicadeza hasta escuchar un bip...
3)Luego moverlo con mucho cuidado de derecha a izquierda hasta escuchar 2 bip.
4) luego de esto sin moverlo, presionar el boton denuevo hasta escuchar 4 bip.

No tiene complicación, es solo algo de practica.

I buy it direct from amazon, and I say to them that it is a very good thermometer, the measurements are quite exact and is single question to learn like using it, because 4 steps are single;

1) to press the button to ignite it.
2) to place it in the external auditory conduit with much gentleness until listening to bip...
3) Soon to move it by far well-taken care of of right to left until listening to 2 bip.
4) after this without moving it, again pressing the button until listening to 4 bip.

It does not have complication, is single something of practices.

This thermometer works like this:
you press a button to turn it on, you'll hear 1 beep to signal battery is ok. Then you stick it in the ear, and wiggle it around until you hear two beep which signals that you've positioned it correctly. Once you hear the two beeps, hold it in that position and press the button again to mark the result.

Ignore the other reviewers' comments on inaccuracy.

The key to this and *ALL* ear thermometers is you have to practice getting it placed correctly in the ear channel. At least this model tells you that you've put it in the correct position, with the 2 beeps sequence. Once you've practiced getting it right, I get fairly consistent readings.

The difference between this and a $10 rectal thermometer reading is 0.2*F. The difference can easily be accounted for because you're measuring two different parts of the body.

This model is spec'd to be accurate within +/- 0.5* F, (same as the $10 rectal thermometer, by the way).

Even though I don't know how accurate other brand's are spec'd to be, but I'm pretty sure you can't get much better than this in terms of accuracy. For goodness sacks, temperature readings could be thrown off by 1 or 2*F by the earwax in your ear or whether you had a cold beverage in the past couple of minutes.

Expecting any more is unreasonable in my opinion.

This thermometer is as fast as advertised but it consistently measures a degree lower than oral thermometers...I can see that this would be a very good product for children as long as you remember to compensate for the difference.

Have to position the meter by "wiggle in the ear canal till it beeps". Then press the switch to hear 4-beeps. See the reading - result, which is one degree lower (testing at normal temp of 98.6 degrees F).

This gives so many different readings in a short time I cannot recommend it. The beeping to make sure it is in the ear and ready is great other than that. I wouldn't ever recommend it again.

15.) Constantly replaced battery and still didn't work

We purchased this item for ourselves and for our son upon the birth of the grandchildren. From day 0ne it never worked properly. We kept replacing batteries and it still wouldn't register. We returned them for an exchange and after several days, it also registerd that it needed an new battery.

Never buy this product. This is a useless ear thermometer. If I did not use a regular digital thermometer to double check than I would assume that this ear thermometer is accurate ( when regular digital was reading 101 & this ear thermometer was reading 98.6). I am very upset with this ear thermometer, I am now just use regular digital thermometer.

This is a terrible thermometer. Within few minutes I got many different readings including one communicating that the room was outside the temperature range for the thermometer to operate properly!!!
The instructions are confusing and lack consistency. There are several versions of the same instructions. There is no way to zero the thermometers between uses, you just have to wait. Some clever person put the instructions in the body of the thermometer that faces the ear. The person taking the temperature cannot read the instructions and the instructions are not simple.

I threw this in the garbage yesterday -- so it was easy to title this review! We got this thermometer because there were no Braun available on Amazon when we were shopping, and boy, I wish we'd waited (it's what others had recommended to us -- we're back now to buy another one).

We followed the instructions of the Omron precisely. Put in ear canal. Listen for one beep. Press button. Listen for more beeps. Check temperature. And the temp consistently read crazy low (like, impossibly low for a feverish child). We tried again over the weekend when our 10-month-old was burning up and acting lethargic. Guess what? A reading of 94.6 degrees. Same thing happened with her older sis.

And can I please speak to you parents out there directly and tell you that there are few things more frustrating and painful to try to get a temp reading off of a cranky sick baby or child and then have it be so horribly off?

Do not waste your time. Garbage, garbage, garbage.

19.) hard to use on babies

This is practically useless when used to take the temperature on a baby.
It requires for the baby to be very still while you -delicately- move a prove inside his/her hear and wait for the second set of beeps, that can be nearly impossible while your baby is squirming around. Short of putting the baby's head on a bench grip I don't know see how this thing can practical.

I bought this from Amazon and I don't like it - the masured temperature drifts from 96.8F to 99.6F in 6 minutes. So inaccurate.

I think you could get a more accurate temperature by licking your finger and sticking it in someone's ear. This thing is a joke. I'm reasonably sure my body temperature wasn't 95 degrees.

I bought this from Amazon and I don't like it - I need to take 5 or 7 measures to be sure about the values, The diferent from the firt measures to the 7 measure is 3 degrees, I have a baby 6 months old and for me is a problem to take a lot of measure. In conclusion IS TO BIG INACCURATE.
