Reviews of Oregon Scientific SE300 Heart Rate Monitor Watch
1.) Looks like my HR102

OVERVIEW: Provides date, time, has a stopwatch and an alarm. You can set target heart rate zone ceiling and floor. Comes with an easy to put on adjustable, elastic chest strap. Backlight.
I bought the HR102 thinking I was buying the SE102 (mislabeled by seller; I bought used). So what do I think I'm missing? My model doesn't vibrate when I go above or below my target heart range. It also doesn't have the "tap" function I read about, but when you get used to it, you realize you probably don't need it.
Initially, I wanted one without a chest strap but review after review told me I would get more accurate reads from a chest strap so I caved in and got one. Truth be told, it doesn't bother me in the least.
While the backlight on mine doesn't work as I would hope, I can live without it. The readings seem accurate to me
Best feature? The aerobics machines in my gym (none of which were made by Oregon Scientific) all picked up the heart rate transmitted from my strap. I wasn't expecting that at all and was thrilled to discover it.
2.) SE300 WITH DATA LOGGER GOOD BUY

Although the manual for the Organ Scientific SE300 is somewhat difficult to follow - with a little trial and error using all of the functions provide important information about your workout. Get the data logger to be able to review and compare your workouts. Also, use conductive gel to insure good results. I was not happy with the SE300 until I started using the gel.
3.) Look elsewhere!

I bought one of these for myself (someone who works out pretty hard about 5 days a week), one for my mother to use in cycling and step class, and one for my boyfriend (bodybuilder type of guy who spends at least 1 hour doing cardio and another hitting the weights daily) and we were all extremely disappointed with it. The directions to set it up are not very straight forward. And then you go to use it and it only registers your heart rate about 50% of the time. I'd be in the middle of a cycling class and it would just show a 0 for my heart rate and then 3 minutes later it would register a number. We all found it to be extremely unreliable and not at all worth the money.
