I'd been wanting to purchase a blood pressure monitor for home use and had really been shopping around for sometime. All the seemingly quality ones I saw at retail stores and pharmacies were in the $70-$90 Range. As I shopped on Amazon.com I enjoyed reading the reviews of the different products. While I was tempted to purchase a lower priced model, some of the reviews about their quality made me do otherwise. This product is quick, accurate and heavy-duty in quality. It is not flimsy or made of inferior materials. For the price, I would truly recommend it.

Recently diagnosed with high blood pressure, my Doctor suggested that I keep track of my pressure at home. Since I travel extensively I wanted something compact that I could pack easily.
My wife is a subscriber to Prevention magazine and swears by the content so when I saw this brand I decided to get one.
It is a great little monitor, very accurate, fast and easy to use. I use the two memories to keep track of my morning and evening pressures seperately. When you hit the memory button the unit shows the average of the stored data. This is a nice feature.
I am very satisfied with this unit. Just make sure you follow the directions about keeping your wrist, and the monitor, at you heart level when you take your pressure. I saw that moving the monitor above or below heart level really does give a different treading.
3.) BEST Most ACCURATE Blood Pressure Monitor Ever, Plus Irregular Heart Beat Warning
Reviewed by: Joan Wear Gainesville, VA USA

The Prevention WS-820PV wrist blood pressure monitor is the ONLY one I am aware of that actually warns you of an irregular heartbeat while taking your blood pressure, etc. I have been having periods of shortness of breath, that actually makes it pretty much impossible to even talk at times, and now I am finding out why. I have had so many IHBs since using this, that I now have an appointment with my doctor to find out why my heart is doing this. I don't mean to sound dramatic, and maybe it isn't all that important, though I would think it would be, just common sense wise, so having this feature on this monitor is one EXCELLENT reason to purchase this unit. I read that it is listed as pretty much the best rated one around. It is also extremely easy to use. I can't 'feel' my heart doing anything unusual when the monitor has registered the IHBs, but have noticed that I have had the shortness of breath around the times it has registered the IHBs. So, just because you can't actually 'feel' your heart beating in some odd way, apparently doesn't mean that your heart isn't doing something it shouldn't.
Be Safe and BUY this Prevention WS-820PV wrist blood pressure monitor for yourself and maybe for your aging parents. It might make a Real difference in yours and their lives.

Recently bought one of these for my Mom. Very easy to use and the results are right on with the readings she gets at her Doctor's Office. She has a subscription to Prevention magazine so was very confident that the monitor could be trusted as well.
The readings are very fast. Data is stored in the memory and when you press the memory button it automatically shows the average of the stored data. That is a nice feature.
5.) Follow up to earlier review

Not sure why the earlier reviewer had bad readings.
Note that you can not be talking or moving AND that the monitor should be at same level (height) as the heart.
I took three measurement and they are ALL within 001 of the previous reading. (If taken within 2 minutes of each other).
There are two memories, I guess M2 could be for spouse or loved one.
In the morning, I clear the entire memory by erasing/deleting the Average or "A" reading.
Then throughout the day, I take several readings (only the last 30 are retained).
The readings are numbered 1 thru 30 with 1 being the most recent.
The "A" reading is the average reading.
Thus at night or first thing in the morning BEFORE erasing the memory, I record the "A" reading for that day.
I also record if I had an irregular heart beat...note that the unit does NOT save the irregular heart beat if detected. You will have to remember that on your own.
I was so pleased that I just ordered a second one for using at work.
FOLLOW-UP....
I just received the second monitor...
The upper numbers SYS differ by only 4 or +/- 2 from center value.
The lower number differed by 1 or 2 at the most...
Note, had one monitor on left wrist and second monitor on right wrist.
Note that since the earlier review above, I now store the IRREGULAR heart beat readings in M2 and the normal heart beat measurements in M1

I found the unit works really well and is quite fast. My readings usually take about 45 - 60 seconds. Its really easy to use and I take it with me when I travel. I also like the two memories. I use them to keep my morning and evening readings seperately.

This replaced a similar wrist cuff meter which I was not happy with. The old meter would give very different readings on measurements made minutes apart. This meter yields essentially the same numbers for second measurements. Out of curiosity, I took it with me to my doctors office, used his large cuff (I have very large arms) and compared the readings to his equipment. Total difference was about 3%, a quite acceptable tolerance for my home measurement. Another reviewer was unhappy with the screen size and position on the bottom of the wrist. If the unit is operated as shown in the instructions, the screen size and position are perfect, the unit is at heart level, and is quite easy to read.
Overall, for home use and serious data collection and blood pressure monitoring, I like this device.

While wrist monitors are generally not considered as reliable as arm monitors, this one seems to be relatively reliable. I have used it frequently for more than a month and feel it is as good as an arm monitor and so far, reliable...It is easy to use, also; it keeps up to 30 readings and also measures pulse each time.
So far, so good..

I've been looking for a wrist blood pressure monitior for a while. I intended to buy the cheapest one but decided to go mid-range. The device is easy to use, and compact to store with its own case. Memory storage allows two people to store data, and also gives you an average. Data can easily be deleted if wanted and the price is reasonable. I like the convenience of monitoring my own blood pressure on a regular basis, as compared with getting it checked occasionally by a health care provider.

We couldn't get our old cuff monitor to work properly, so we decided on trying a wrist monitor. After much study, I chose this one. Turns out the Dr. said it was more accurate than any he's seen. Now we can take our blood pressure at home without having to go to the doctor's office or grocery store. The doctor knows the variation and can determine if our meds are working properly. If my husband can use it...it's really easy to use! He won't mess with anything that is difficult to work with. I would definitely recommend this unit.
22.) Very quick & simple
Reviewed by: Dan NJ

This is great for fast & simple monitoring of your blood pressure & pulse. It takes about 1 minute to give you blood pressure & pulse, and it tells you if it detects an irregular pulse (such as PVC). There's no fuss, and no stethoscope, nor hand pump, nor any of that old school stuff. The formed wrist band has a velcro strap which fastens & unfastens quickly & easily, and everything is done at the push of a button. You can do it easily all by yourself.
Note: if, for some reason, you really need super-accurate readings, then you have to be careful to have your wrist always at the same level (relative to your heart) every time you take a reading, because you can get different readings if your wrist is higher or lower than your heart; but that is true with any device. I just try to have my arm be "about" the same place (relative to the heart), so I get pretty consistent readings, and at least I know the general range. I don't care about a difference between, say, 117/69 and 119/72 -- I just want to know if I'm unusually high or low, and this is plenty accurate for that.
This device has 2 30-entry memories (to keep track for 2 different people, or to keep track of morning & evening, or something like that), but I don't even use them because I just want to know where I am at the given time. If you are interested, it will display an average of the readings in each memory, and you can look back through the last 30 individual readings in each memory.
The one negative point is that it needs ALKALINE batteries, not nickle metal hydride (apparently because the electric field from the hydride batteries would interfere with the electronics the device uses to detect pulses). It needs 2 AAA batteries, and so far one set of batteries has lasted me 100 readings or so.

After reading a series of reviews of wrist monitors, I purchased the Prevention monitor. Although the Omron monitor was also highly rated by a British group, the Prevention monitor seemed to have all the features I thought I would need. The accuracy (relative to an Omron arm monitor) and reproducibility have been excellent. The unit is small enough to toss into my suitcase and convenient to use at work. I haven't had the unit long enough to know how durable it will be. The day I received the unit, one of my co-workers used it to check her blood pressure. She ended up going to the doctor because her pressure was so high. Even though we've had arm units at work for years, folks have been reluctant to use them because of the ritual required to use them.

26.) Good for a wrist monitor but has one flaw.
Reviewed by: Truthseeker Kansas City, MO, USA
Rating:
Like all wrist monitors, it must be used carefully to get an accurate reading. It also tends to read a few points below an arm cuff when used as directed.
Like all wrist cuffs, it is supposed to be held at heart, or armpit level. However, with me, that gives a consistently lower reading than an arm cuff... by a few points. To compensate I have to hold it lower down, by 8 to 12 inches. Then it is consistent with the arm cuffs I also use.
It also tends to deflate a bit more quickly than I think is good for best accuracy.
The big flaw, and one it shares with the Prevention DS-1902PV Arm cuff, is that while it claims to detect irreglar heartbeat, and does, it DOES NOT STORE that info in memory along with the BP & pulse, time and date. If that info is useful to detect then it should be useful to record, and that is what I assumed it would do.
I think that is a bit of misrepresentation of the product.
I am also not happy with the way the information must be displayed for copying. It is a cumbersome system, and if you are not quick enough the display defaults and then that record, say number 24, must be found again, requiring another 24 button presses.
Otherwise it does what it claims, and is a very handy portable unit.
27.) Getting the job done.
Reviewed by: Family Man Holden, MA USA

The Prevention blood pressure monitor gets the job done. It seems to produce fairly reliable results and does its job in a reasonable amount of time. Still, I would prefer a monitor whose face mounted on the upper part of the wrist rather than the underside. It feels a little awkward sometimes. I also wish it worked a little faster too. Still, it has a very large face and anyone can read the results without having a hint of a problem. That being said, I find it to be more than acceptable, yet I wish it were a tad smaller, a bit comfortable and a little quicker with the results.

I'm happy with this monitor. Some doctors, including my husband's, said he didn't think wrist monitors were that accurate, so my husband bought a well-known brand's arm monitor, the one his doctor recommended. I get results that are very similar using either. I like the hard case that came with the Prevention monitor too. I think it was a worthwhile buy and more convenient than the arm monitor. I suppose depending on your frame, etc, some monitors are better suited for some people than others, but this does the job for me.

Cons:
- Poor material quality
- Hard to use two memories! If you don't remember to press the right memory button, your reading will end up on the other person's record!
- Very slow reading
- It sometimes restarts the reading in the middle of a reading, applying a lot of pressure on the wrist for a long time to come up with a final reading! This will elevate your blood pressure by itself!!
