1.) Everything you NEED... Nothing you don't

I originally looked at Polar heart rate monitors but after much research and advice from others, I choose the Sigma. The Sigma has a coded chest strap (unlike the cheaper Polar models). The batteries are user replaceable with off-the-shelf CR2032 batteries that cost about $2 each. The batteries in the equivalent Polar models have to be replaced by Polar which obviously costs a lot more.
The chest strap connected immediately with the monitor and if comfortable. It was easy to set up user information such as age, weight, etc. Since this model is designed for a woman rather than being unisex, the strap has plenty of adjustment for slim wrists. The handlebar mount was a nice extra although I doubt that I'll use it. The Sigma is very easy to use. Most people are only interested in current heart rate, calories burned and heart rate zone (high and low). This offers all of those and is cute enough to wear as a daily watch displaying time and date.
After I bought it, I noticed another lady at my gym wearing the same model. She has had hers quite a while and loves it. Since the cheststraps are coded, there was no interference between us.
I really don't know what else I would want from a heart rate monitor. Anything more would just make it too complicated. If you visit Sigma's website you can test it for yourself with their on-screen demo. I guess the only thing I'd like to see would be a range of colors other than just black or blue.
2.) "In love" with a piece of electronic

I bought this 4 weeks ago and have been using it 4 times a week for 2 weeks now. I'm a 30 year old mom to two little boys. I just had my second son 14 weeks ago. I regularly worked out before getting pregnant but wasn't a marathon runner by any means. I enjoy being fit and eating right. I never thought I'd need a Heart Rate monitor but felt compelled to have one so I could monitor my calories burned more accurately. I'm in the process of needing to lose 18lbs to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I am by far SO PLEASED with this watch. I have many friends that 'are' marathon runners and say that Polar is the way to go. But from many of the reviews on Amazon, I opted to try a lesser expensive product with the thought of easy returns. I tired a strapless watch at a local sports store, no way. I had to check my heart rate regularly and when trying to do so, I would stop working out for a total of 1 minute just to get an accurate reading and that messed with my 'flow'. The watch was very easy to set up, and after many wears it's easy to remember which button does which. My treadmill, without heart rate monitoring, inaccurately tracked my calories burned and with one wear of this watch I discovered I was burning 2 times of what the treadmill was telling me; huge motivator! I have no cons just lots of pros. One dynamic, of which I thought was hilarious, after a workout I picked up my younger son, and the heart rate number dropped to 0 vs. the current heart rate. I assume it got confused with two heart beats close in range.
I highly recommend this watch for beginner and intermediate users.
Happy Exercising!

I've had this watch for about a month now. It seemed to take it's time arriving, but once it got here it has been put to use and it is well worth the value.
I read a review about how it was a bit difficult to set, but I did not have a single problem with setting it. I always read the instructions so that may be why it was so easy for me to set, also knowing that this is a German manufactured watch I figured if ever there was a time to read the book, this is it.
I didn't even read the entire manual, just skipped over to the page that had a break down of what every function was used for, and how to set them and that was it. Took me all of 10 minutes to input my personal data, and the next thing I know, I'm counting calories.
Just in case you don't know, you must have the heart rate monitor on AND the stopwatch must be going in order for the calorie counter to work. I skipped over that part and was confused for a minute or two, but once I turned the stopwatch on, no worries.
Great watch, more user friendly than I expected it to be, and very durable.

This monitor is very comfortable and pretty accurate. It also isn't ugly so I can wear it with normal every day clothes. It was well worth the price I paid and has been a great help for me when I work out as I have tachycardia and need to keep an eye on how high my heart rate goes.
5.) LOVE IT!

I love my Sigma HRM. When I asked my husband to help me with a workout plan, he stressed the importance of maintaining the heart rate. After researching several, I chose this one. I really like the calorie counter! It's a bonus for me. This little jewel has been such a motivator for me.
The chest belt is comfortable and after a while you forget your wearing it. I like to wear mine all day after a workout to watch the calorie counter go up, up, up. The watch itself is a bit bulky for me but it's not that bad. It's funny.. my daughter or 3 knows mommy's going to the gym when she sees my blue watch!
I love this product and would recommend it for anyone who wants to watch their progress!
6.) No Handle Bar Set-up In Box

Ok so with that said if your a bike rider you might be wary. This moniter is very easy to use with simple programs(read the book)once used to it. I find that I have to dab water onto the monitor before putting it on or will get a heartrate that's all over the place until sweat gets it wet enough to provide a stable reading.
7.) Not happy with Sigma Onyx

This is a cute watch and you would think it would work when you take it out of the box...and follow directions. It was easy to program your personal information into the watch but I couldn't get the watch and chest band to connect. My husband and I both tried several times and even changed the batteries and nothing. For me, this was a waste of money. This watch is returning to Amazon and I ordered a Polar F6 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Pink Coral).
8.) Not happy. Returned twice, bought other brand.

I ordered this product because of the good reviews. Unfortunately, the reviews did not pan out. The first watch/band set did not connect - they would not track my heart rate. The product was not easy to set up, either. I returned it with no hassle (thanks, Amazon!). Got another one...same problem. Would not connect. I bought a Polar F4T and it worked like a charm - easy set up, auto connect for my heart rate!
9.) Stopped working after 2 weeks

I bought this and was so please because it had exactly what I wanted and not too much jumble that I didn't need. After about 2 weeks it stoppped reading my heart rate and would just display a "zero" for the heart rate. It became so frusterating because when there is no heart rate then it stops counting calories too. I'm returning it and finding another hrm.

 Digital coding explained. |
Digitally Coding Explained Sigma Sport's Onyx models are stand outs due to their digital, coded transmission. Through this technology users avoid wireless disturbances during group training known as "cross talk effect" in specialist jargon. At the start of training, synchronization takes place between the coded chest belt and the heart rate monitor. Consequently the watch only receives data from its own chest belt. The heart rate readings are converted into digital data packages and transmitted to the receiver in the watch. A time coding and ID procedure within Onyx models guarantees that data transmission is significantly more secure compared to analogue heart rate monitors.
